Affoldern hydropower plant

It was commissioned in 1929 and completely modernised in 1999. mg游戏官方网站 took over the plant from E.ON at the beginning of 2009.

A run-of-river power station uses the movement of the water to generate energy. The water pressure created by overcoming naturally or artificially created differences in height puts a turbine wheel into operation, thereby powering a generator that generates electricity.

The Affoldern plant works with two Kaplan turbines and has a generating capacity of 2.7 MW.

At the location of the power plant, a weir dams up the lake of Affoldern (Affolderner See) and is fed by the higher situated Eder lake reservoir (Ederstausee). The southern part of the lake of Affoldern is home to a bird reserve. As the lake never freezes because of the power plant operation, birds spend the winter here.
